Things to Know About your WeddingMoon® Destination – Residency Requirements

October 04, 2013 - Beaches Resorts - Weddings & Honeymoons

As you work with our Sandals or Beaches Pre-Travel Wedding Planner to plan your perfect destination wedding, there a few things to consider when preparing your itinerary including the amount of time you will be spending on your tropical island paradise. Sandals and Beaches provide a variety of fun activities for the two of you and for your guests including beach parties, a spa day, a rehearsal dinner, an Island Routes Caribbean Adventure and so much more.

Something to keep in mind while you are planning your itinerary is the length of your stay on the island as you will need to fulfill  the temporary “residency” hours that are required by the government of the island you choose. This means the time that you must be “residing” on the island at our resort before the minister can perform your ceremony for a designated period of time before you can legally be married. Each island in the Caribbean has different residency requirements that must be fulfilled before we can proceed with your marriage ceremony.  Here is a breakdown of the residency requirements by island:

  • Jamaica – 48 Hrs. (Including weekends and holidays )
  • Bahamas – 48 Hrs. (Not including weekends or holidays)
  • Antigua – 48 Hrs. (Must include 1 business day and not including holidays)
  • Turks & Caicos – 48 Hrs. (Not including date of arrival or weekends)
  • Saint Lucia – 72 Hrs. (or 48 hours with expedite fee – Not including weekends or holidays)
  • Grenada – up to 144 Hrs. (or 48 hours with expedite fee)

So if you need to wait a few days before your destination WeddingMoon®, this is perfect time to plan some activities in our Caribbean paradise, or just sit back and relax in the sun before your big wedding day!  Start to discuss with your fiancé all of the fun ways that you can spend your WeddingMoon®!
